Difference in brake and dynamometer? I think both are completely different in their application. A brake is a mechanical device which inhibits motion while on other side A dynamometer or "dyno" for short, is a device for measuring force, moment of force (torque), or power etc. Both are altogether different machines.

A dynamometer is also a brake except the measuring devices are included to indicate the amount of force required in attempting to stop the engine.
